Gübelin x Calatrava: A Masterpiece of Time and Architecture

For its 170th anniversary, Gübelin pays tribute to its heritage as a watchmaker with a remarkable creation: a timepiece designed by world-renowned architect Dr. Santiago Calatrava. The platinum Ipsomatic, limited to 170 pieces, reflects both the brand’s milestone and Calatrava’s signature organic elegance. Its flowing, architectural lines celebrate 170 years of Gübelin craftsmanship and innovation.

The Architectural Collaboration: To honor this collaboration, a monumental set inspired by Calatrava’s architecture and the watch’s design was built together with the firm GRUNER&FRIENDS. Simple yet striking column elements echoed his distinctive design language, bringing his vision into a spatial experience. The physical environment was meticulously crafted to serve as a bridge between high-end horology and monumental architecture, creating a stage where light and shadow perform in harmony with the product.

The Cinematic Synergy Brothers: Tizian Gruner, founder of GRUNERFILMS, and Patrice Gruner, founder of GRUNER&FRIENDS, showcased their creative synergy throughout the project, merging architecture and film with precision, artistry, and passion. In this production, we utilized dynamic camera movements that mimic the watch’s organic curves, choreographed to reveal the intricate details of the platinum surfaces. This project stands as a testament to the power of interdisciplinary artistry—bringing nearly two centuries of Swiss heritage into a modern, cinematic light. Through macro-level precision and expansive spatial storytelling, the film captures the very essence of Calatrava’s "Ipsomatic" for a global audience.
