On the edge of going insane and hunted by nightmares of murder and suicide the family man Clemens Kidman decides to finally break free to find his true self, or to lose it all...
Synopsis
The family man Clemens Kidman who works at a bank has been suppressed by his environment all his life. Society has always made sure to put him into a social corset which has predicted every single decision in his life. Because of that he has never been able to learn more about his true self nor has he ever been able to really love himself. He is haunted by thoughts of suicide and murder and lives a life in the shadows.
One day - being on the edge of losing his mind - he decides to leave his hometown in order to protect his family from himself. Clemens steals a suitcase full of money from the bank he is working at, buys a forged passport and an old revolver on the black market and boards a train to leave the city and embarks on an adventurous journey. By turning away from the repressive norms of his bourgeois existence, Clemens seeks to find his other self, his true self and starts a trip that will test his world view to the very core. On the train Clemens meets the waiter Manson, an attractive and fascinating young man who lives carefree from day to day and they soon become friends. The new surroundings of a small picturesque seaside town seem to offer relief at first, but Clemens cannot run away from himself. Manson manages that Clemens can see those parts of himself that he had previously fought and denied but Clemens is still plagued by feelings of guilt and thoughts of murder and suicide.
One evening Clemens meets a beautiful singer. Her youth and her ease of enjoying life and being able to live in the here and now stand in severe contrast to Clemens' conservative worldview. Although the beautiful woman is afraid of Clemens at first, she still feels mysteriously drawn to him. Clemens, however, is always caught between his old imprinted norms and the possible new version of himself.
Over the following days Clemens encounters unspeakable events full of craziness, violence and lust and as a result he starts loosing himself in the different versions of himself.
Clemens realizes that before he can ever love someone again, he first must begin to get to know himself and learn to love himself.
